In loving memory of Sue Piciacchio: a beacon of light and enduring spirit, forever leaving her mark on our hearts. Join us in celebrating her beautiful journey.
Constantly helping others, Sue’s work ethic and commitment to her community knew no bounds.
Sue M. Piciacchio, 93, of Westerville, OH, formerly of Brewster and Wooster, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 27, 2023, in Westerville.
She was born in Dover, OH, on April 7, 1930, to Tony Leone and Frances Saam and adopted by the late James and Elizabeth (Leone) Frederick. Following her mother Elizabeth’s death in 1938, she spent the next several years of her life living with her father in Michigan and eventually moved back to Brewster, Ohio, under the care of her aunt and uncle, Mariano (Mike) and Annuziata (Leone) Belloni.
Sue married Pete B. Piciacchio on May 17, 1952, at St. Therese Catholic Church in Brewster. They built a home on Kings Highway in Brewster and were active members of the Parish all of their lives. Pete died July 8, 1995, after 43 years of marriage. After his death, Sue moved to Wooster in 2002.
Sue lived a very productive life. In her Church, she was a long-serving member, Treasurer, and President of the Rosary & Altar Society and helped decorate the Church for holidays and prepared and served the delicious Sunday chicken dinners held throughout the years. She taught CCD classes on Sundays to young students for 14 years and received the Pope Pius award for her many years of service.
Sue was proud of her professional career. She retired from the Brewster Building & Loan Bank after a 39-year career, rising to become their first female Bank Manager in 1982 and a member of the bank’s Board of Directors. She loved that she was able to help families qualify for loans to purchase their homes. After her retirement, she remained active professionally, working as an office manager at the Villas in Massillon.
Sue served her community extensively. She was elected as the first female Fairless School Board member in 1979, eventually becoming the Board President in 1982 and serving in that role for nearly a decade. She served as President of the Brewster Little League Association in the 1960s, was active with the Girls State Program and with the American Legion Auxiliary, delivered Meals on Wheels to area residents for nearly 17 years. She was a registered Foster Parent, belonged to CASA, and was a Guardian ad Litem for many years. Even into her 80s, she served as a local Precinct Captain for the Board of Elections and as President and Treasurer of her condominium association in Wooster.
Perhaps her greatest work was with her family. She was the catalyst for many family events and trips throughout the years. She loved to cook and enjoyed good food and wine with family and friends. She was a fearless woman who led and broke many glass ceilings without even thinking about it. Her presence and spiritual values enriched and improved her family’s lives.
Sue is survived by three children Lisa (Marty Boden) Zupan of Westerville, Joel (Vicki Mercer) Piciacchio of Massillon, and Steve (Sherry) Piciacchio of Midlothian, VA; grandchildren Shannon (Andrew), DJ, Maria (Nathan), Rachel (Jamal), Christian, Nikki (Huston), Joel Jr., Anthony, and Dominic, and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves behind six half-siblings, James (Glenda) Frederick, Fred (Sherry) Frederick, William (Cathy) Frederick, Phillip Frederick, and Henrietta Webb-Hammac, all of Monroe, MI, and Lenore Spitler of Canton, OH. She also leaves behind long-time friend Roger Derringer of Wooster.
In addition to her husband and parents, Sue was preceded in death by an infant son, Peter, and dear friend Robert Effron.
Her family wishes to thank St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville, for the compassionate and dignified care they provided to both Sue and her family members.
Following her wishes, cremation has taken place and private family services will be held.

Meals on Wheels is a community-based service that delivers nutritious meals to seniors and individuals with limited mobility, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition and periodic social interaction. Through the dedication of countless volunteers, it not only addresses hunger and nutrition but also combats loneliness and isolation.
CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocate, originated in Seattle and has grown into a nationwide program with nearly 950 branches across 49 states. Dedicated to supporting children in the foster care and child welfare system, CASA volunteers play a more consistent role in a child's life compared to a paid Guardian ad Litem. Often, CASA volunteers are the only stable adult figures for these children who face frequent changes in residences and schools. In Ohio, where over 16,000 children are in foster or kinship care, the Ohio CASA, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been working for over 20 years, offering support, training, and resources to local CASA initiatives, ensuring a safer and permanent home for the state's vulnerable children.
The International Rescue Committee addresses global humanitarian emergencies, including in Ukraine and Afghanistan. They provide health, safety, education, and economic assistance, championing a world where women and girls have equal opportunities.
